Chex Party Mix

Nothing says holiday snaking quite like Chex Mix. I don't remember a holiday get together without a large bowl to snack on. I've had the opportunity to review a "Chex Holidays Recipes" gift pack that included two boxes of Chex and a $25 gift card from Kroger.

I used my cereal to make regular Chex Mix and plan on making Chex Muddy Buddies. The Muddy Buddies are soooo easy to make and are always a big hit. I have a friend who made them with soy butter and chocolate(not processed around nuts) for her peanut allergy family.

The Muddy Buddy recipe (from Chex box) is as follows:

9 C Chex cereal (any combo you want--I like corn :)
1 C semisweet choc. chips
1/2 C peanut butter
1/4 C butter or margarine
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 C powdered sugar

1. measure cereal into large bowl and set aside
2. in 1 qt microwaveable bowl, microwave choc. chips, peanut butter, and margarine on high 1 minute.  Microwave additional 30 second increments until mixture can be stirred smooth. Add vanilla. Pour over cereal and stir until evenly coated. Place mixture into 2 gallon storage bag.
3. Add powdered sugar, then seal bag. Shake until well coated, then spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in fridge.

What is your favorite Chex holiday recipe? Share it with me for a chance to win. This is a quick contest before Kroger's Chex specials are done. Leave me your favorite recipe and the first one wins.

*****Chex and Kroger provided me with the free product, information, and giveaway through MyBlogSpark.

Giveback.org

Christmas time is about giving. I learned about a great new site Giveback.org from One2One network. It is a site where you can sign up to support charities of your choice. You create your own personal giving foundation. There are many, many charities to choose from and you can get one single tax return receipt at the end of the year. You may add however much you want to your account and then divide it among the charities of your choice. Plus, when you sign up they give you $5 to start with. I gave mine to the American Cancer Society, but you can give it to whomever you choose. You can also donate by shopping in their online shopping mall. Up to 15% of your purchase will go to your account.  I'll add the giveback.org widget to my sidebar so you can learn more about this organization. Giving back feels good.

11 summertime boredome busters

If you have kids, then you are familiar with searching for boredom busters.

Dr. Mary Zurn from Primrose Schools has come up with 11 great boredom busting ideas.

Here are 11 ideas parents can use to keep young minds active during the summer months:
1. Boredom Buster Jar: At the beginning of the summer, sit down with your family and brainstorm a list of activities that can be done alone or that you can enjoy doing together. Encourage your children to share their own ideas and help you decorate and label a simple jar as the family "Boredom Buster Jar." They'll feel more involved in the project and more likely to think this is a "neat" idea, if they participate in the creation and idea generation. Next, write every one's ideas down on slips of paper and as a group decide which ones should go in the jar. Anyone in the family can pull any idea out of the jar to fight the summertime boredom blues.

2. Stories Alive: It sounds too simple, but reading is one of the most important ways to keep young minds engaged during the summer.Make reading even more fun by finding ways to bring the stories to life. For example, in the book Roxaboxen by Alice McLerran, children create a make-believe town in the desert out of rocks, boxes, and their imaginations. Read the book with your children and then challenge them to create their own town with materials they find in the backyard.

3. Art Start Box: You'll need to gather basic art supplies-child safe scissors, glue, markers, tape and construction paper. Put them in a special box along with empty oatmeal boxes and paper towel rolls, colorful magazines and bits of aluminum foil. Occasionally add a special surprise like chalk, stickers, or stamp pads so there's always something new for the children to find. Even if you normally have these supplies around the house, it's fun for children to know that the Art Start Box is just for them. They'll probably have some good ideas of other household items that can be recycled to fuel their creative energies.

4. Family Performances: Break out old clothes or costumes and encourage children to make up characters and create a play to act out. They are the directors, actors, and producers. They can also make musical instruments out of pots/pans, wooden spoons, empty canisters and have a parade; or everyone can play along to your family's favorite songs. Record or video the performances, and enjoy the replay. You'll also be capturing a bit of family history everyone will enjoy for years to come.

5. Family Dance Party: Crank up the music and encourage your entire family to boogie down. Dancing gives children a great outlet for self-expression through their own motion and helps build self-esteem. It also enhances motor and coordination development by incorporating skills like jumping, landing and leaping. Dancing is a great activity that can involve the whole family and doesn't take very much preparation.

6. Fort Building: Children love to build all kinds of structures--from small towns to large towers. Constructing forts or tents is an activity that can keep children focused and problem solving for hours. All the items you need can be found around the house- some chairs, cushions, blankets, and of course adult supervision.

7. Cookbook Fun: Have you ever shared your favorite cookbook with your children? Take it out and ask your children to choose a recipe to try. Measuring can be a fun and easy way to keep math skills fresh.

8. Summer Scrapbook: All you need for this project is a spiral notebook. Encourage everyone in the family to draw pictures of favorite activities and collect mementos from special events throughout the summer. Children love to go back through scrapbooks and albums and tell about what happened at each occasion. They will also be building their storytelling skills at the same time.

9. Listening Game: Lie down in the backyard, in the den or at the park and listen. What do you hear? Do you hear what I hear? Can you imitate the sound? This is similar to watching the clouds and naming the shapes, and it encourages everyone to slow down and focus on listening.

10. Camping Out: Pretend to campout in the backyard. Plan a meal, pack a backpack and set up a campsite. You might even decide to spend the night!

11. Scavenger Hunt: Make a list or picture cards of common household items and have your children find the items on the list. Invite friends or neighbors to join in the fun to make it a competition.

Gift with registry

A while back I saw on one my fave sites about getting gifts for creating a registry. Most of these are for a wedding registry (I'll be getting re-married on my anniversary). Some companies will give you a gift for adding so many dollars worth of their brand to your registry. Then you send in a copy of your registry and the form (download from the registry site) and then wait. I sent mine off a week ago and have just gotten my first gift--a pair of kitchen shears from wusthoff! Nice. I hope all of my stuff comes, its great to get gifts for free. Plus, now I can tell those who want to get me a gift that I'm registered at so and so.

Bzz Agent anyone?

The is a company that gives you products to try and talk about. It called Bzz Agent. Basically its a company that uses word of mouth advertising to get the word out about products. I am thrilled to have been given two products in the last month. Firstly let me say that Bzz Agent gave me these products and samples. And also, that I am not selling anything. I was sent a Scrubbing Bubbles automatic shower cleaner.  Woo wee!! I had always wanted to try this, but the price tag kept holding me back. (I'm VERY frugal). I absolutely love this product. It is easy to use and helps me with my cleaning. What more could you ask for. The unit took me less than a minute to set up and use. I just push a button after the last shower of the day and voila. My shower gets cleaned while I sleep. Ingenious really. I give this definitely two thumbs up.

My next kit that I received from Bzz Agent contains Covergirls new Smokeyshadowblast and Shineblast. It is actually two different products. Smokeyshadowblast is a neat two sided eyeshadow crayon. It has a blunt end and a more fine end. It is in complimentary colors to help you create a wonderful "smokey eye" effect. There are instructions on the package on how to create this look. It is easy enough even for eyeshadow novices like me.
Shineblast is a great tinted lip gloss. It comes in many great colors and is sooooooo easy to apply. Just smooth it on with the applicator tip and go. I like that is is not heavy like lipstick and that it leaves my lips looking shiny and kissable. The color I picked it great too!

Here is a link to BzzAgent so you too can sign up and try products for free. http://www.bzzagent.com/

Happy bzzing!

primo cosmetics and a mail drought

I don't know if I've shared, but I also blog for prettycity.com. My blog there kandidkell shares my experiences with many different great cosmetics and services. I love trying new things and sharing my discoveries. Also, because of my frugality I like getting said items/services for free :) :) :) Prettycity sends me products to try in return for my blogging. I get brand name exclusive cosmetics in return for my time (just a few minutes) and my words. Its a win/win!

There's been a mail drought for me. No freebies or samples in days!!!! I think I'm going through withdrawals. However I did receive my steam mop/ vacuum for my focus group via FEDEX (who I now have a beef with).  What a wonderful product. I look forward to sharing that at a later time (not including brand names of course).  Plus I recently found a website that list places to take surveys/ do focus groups/ and generally how to make money at home on the internet. It is amylynn.org/home there is a wealth of info about which companies are legit, etc... I'll be signing up with a few more focus groups and see if anything pans out. I'll post the ones I get good results with.

mystery shopping

A call from DSG associates puts me on a new path. They are a mystery shop company. I am a newbie to mystery shops and will post my experiences as they come. I have always heard of mystery shopping and often wondered how to get hired to do that. With the hundreds of advertisers of mystery shopping ( most of them bogus) I was cautious about applying. I got the name of DSG from a wonderful blog I subscribe to : moneysavingmethods.com. Between that and Free Stuff Times, I have learned so many valuable tips for getting free stuff!

Monetizing my blog

I've been playing around recently with monetizing my blog. I can add ads that pay per page, etc.... I started blogging for fun, but if I can profit from it as well ...... It is just an idea in the making. I'm still awaiting free stuff to distribute. There are lots of earth day freebies to be had today. Check Free Stuff Times for a listing. That's where I get a majority of my freebies. And also where I found places to sign up for product testing. A truly great site indeed!

Stockpiling

I've been a little lax the last year about stockpiling. Stockpiling is when you find a rockbottom price (sometimes free) on a product and you buy enough to last a 6mo-1yr. My stockpiles a slowly dwindling away to nothing. Soon I will be scouring sites like Hot Coupon World and Southern Savers to find the absolute best prices and build my piles again. I will post my very best deals as soon as I find them

Today is about the greatness of focus groups. Focus groups are like survey companies that send you products to review and give feedback on or have you participate in online discussions. Or maybe even both. They are about specific subjects or products and usually compensate well. Two that come to mind are Focus Forward and 20/20. Both are legit companies that compensate well for your opinions. We all have opinions and we should get paid to give them to companies!

More goodys for me this week in my mailbox. More poptarts from Pop tarts sprinklings. A 2 pack of my childs fav pop tarts because it's his 1/2 birthday. That means its 6 months till his birthday :) a great idea for celebrating. Got a great TIGI girls just want it lip palate (very nice), trash bag sample from sams. Stim u dent toothpick samples free oreo coupon was nice too! Yay to the Mannings for winning the Oreo challange- both were from Facebook samples/giveaways. On a sad note, I had to ship my New Balance shoes back this week, but I did apply for 3 Houseparty.com houseparties. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

tigi's lip palate and a map of texas

Todays mail was a TIGI lip palate (VERY NICE FREEBIE), and a Texas tourism book (think phone book thick). Came with a map of Texas (my kids love maps what can I say).
Also, a 2010 calendar from somewhere in Europe - totally didn't expect that one to come but it did :) I am saddened to say that my New Balance shoes have to go back this week :( I love getting them and testing them, but hate to see them go. Oh well, hopefully I'll get a new pair in the next few months and am looking on the bright side. I had a new smile.ly mission today but instead of a product to try, it gave a coupon. Not sure I like that, but since they did give me a full size Vitacraves, I think I'll give em another chance. I think the snow must be slowing down the mail cause I haven't been loaded with freebies like usual.

Lego magazine and a new houseparty!

So my exciting thing for this week was to receive Lego Jr magazine for my son who is absolutely CRAZY about Legos! I signed up several weeks ago and had lost hope only to get the 1st issue this week! Also, houseparty.com has a new ziploc houseparty! If you're as crazy about organization as I am, you should definitely apply.

As of this week, I am officially a Beauty Ambassador for Pretty City. I've recently started blogging for them and am proud to post about a great product they sent. Its called Cheekie cheek & lip shine by Julie Hewett Los Angeles. It is soooooooooo great! A creamy color for lips or cheeks in the PERFECT color for me. Seriously, I couldn't have picked a better color myself. Maybe those people at prettycity.com know me better than I know myself :), or maybe they just have great taste.........

running for the mail

So, has there ever been a time in your life when you are just plain excited to check your mail? I'm at this place in my life right now. Everyday when I get home, I almost can't contain myself. I have to stop and check my mailbox 1st thing. You never know what might come! Sometimes no packages and sometimes the mailbox is overflowing. This leads me into todays post. E-mailing companies. Many times if you e-mail the companies that make your favorite products they will send you coupons just for contacting them! In the past I had only contacted companies if their product was wrong/messed up. But recently I have started contacting my favorite companies and telling them how awesome their products are. Many times they send me coupons for free or deeply discounted product. Ex: my favorite yogurt is Activia cherry (regular not lite), so I e-mailed Dannon and told how wonderful the yogurt is and how it was my favorite. They took the time to respond with a personalized letter and 10 coupons for yogurt. And the best part is that Activia is BOGO this week at 1.99 and my coupon will double making 10 free packs of yogurt for me!!!

viva diva cafe

Today one of my favorite companies sent me a present :) Currently I am a Viva Diva (Viva paper towels) and they sent me a great reusable grocery sack and a cooking magazine issue. This adds to the pot holder, and two mugs they sent me last year! I am loving Viva paper towels (they are soft and very durable!) and being a Viva Diva.

If you haven't signed up at Kroger to play the games, you should. This week I received an e-mail from them saying I've won a t-shirt! This adds to my list of prizes. I've won a traveling mug (VERY nice one), 3 hats, a limited edition signed racing print, two dvd's, a cookbook, and now a t-shirt!!!!! I'm lovin it :)

spin and win

Okay todays post is a little different,
I recently heard of a great opportunity to donate money to the Save the Childrens CHANGE program without actually spending a dime. All you have to do is go to http://www.maketimeforchange.com/ and register/login and spin the wheel. Its that easy. Frigidaire donates $1 for each spin (up to $250,000) to the Save the Children program. This program is "dedicated to providing nutritious snacks and promoting healthier lifestyles for children living in poverty in the United States". So, go ahead and don't be bashful, spin the wheel. You never know, you just might win ;)

blogger perks

You know, I've been hearing about companies that give bloggers products to try out and share with their fans. I hope I can stumble across one of these soon, I would love to try something new and share it with you!
Weelllllll,

I haven't been posting much lately, getting back into the swing of school is a little trying. My new products/ free samples have been rolling in lately. This last week I have gotten 2 free movie screening passes (shakefire.com), 3 free atkins bar samples (had to join on a certain day-- and they are tasty :) ), a free full size sample from kashi.com (mmmm), a nice 1st aid kit (had to post about a new years resolution at healthcarescoop.com), a full size bottle of VitaCraves vitamins (way better than I expected) (Smile.ly : smilely.com), and a sample of stacy's pita chips from AllYou reality checkers (love those people!!!!) Also I hosted my houseparty.com house party featuring the Wii Your Shape with Jenny McCarthy and Jello mouse temptations (very tasty but a bit fluffy in your mouth (only 60 calories!!). It was a blast and the Wii Just Dance that came in my party kit was a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also I received a product to test and I can't tell you what it is, but it tastes yummy too! I'll be thankful for my Your Shape game after all these food samples so I can work them off ;)

cold day outside, cold deals inside

Not much to sing about on the freebie front. Got samples for spark energy drink (haven't tried it yet) and a sample of vaska herbatergent. I also scored a free t-shirt from Amazon.com with a promo code (it went super fast!). I'll be excited to get that one in. I've applied to about a dozen focus group/ paying survey sites over the break. I've gotten acceptances from all of them and just patiently awaiting the flood of e-mails to my junk address (its always a good idea to keep a separate address for stuff like that). I've been contemplating doing some mystery shops. There's a lot of companies that do that stuff, the only problem is you usually have to front the money for your shops. This can get confusing if you are really busy (and who isn't) and hard to keep track of. I haven't yet decided......... Any ole ways, on to find more deals!
